During Intergeo 2004 in Stuttgart, Topcon unveiled a revolution in Surveying Instrumentation in the form of the GPT-7000i. This is the world’s first Total station to incorporate the very latest digital imaging technology to enhance Total Station fieldwork and extend the range of applications for the total station.

The implementation of imaging technology allows the image seen through the telescope to be viewed on the display screen of the instrument. This not only makes it easy to point the telescope to the required object for measurement, but instead of only the traditional map view of the surveyed points on the screen, you now see the measured points and lines appear on the real view of the area being measured. In addition you can now “Capture Reality” by storing the digital image along with the measurement data.

For certain specialist applications, such as building façade measurements, the GPT-7000i is ideally suited having reflectorless measurement capability upto 250m range. And with the building façade all in view on the display screen, point identification is easy. The need for multiple visits to the site to make reconnaissance sketches and photographs is eliminated.

Reflectorless measurement to corner points is made easier and more accurate with the GPT-7000i. Imaging techniques are used to perform “Auto-Edge Extraction” to define corner points more accurately than any non-prism measurement technique alone can do.

For accident investigation or environmental disaster surveys the advantages of the GPT-7000i are self evident. Visual records of the scene at precisely the time of the measurement survey are valuable documentation that can be used to enhance the results of the survey and count as legal evidence.

The GPT-7000i is based on the standard TOPCON GPT-7000 series of reflectorless total stations with the addition of the digital imaging technology.
